Whilst it's not a precondition of our ski insurance policies on www.skicover.com that you wear a helmet when skiing or snowboarding, personally the team here have really come round and are now big fans!

So when we had the opportunity on a recent ski trip to try out some new helmets we thought we would send out a review of the ones that we really liked.

Alpina Junior Helmet

Great economy helmet for kids offering a secure outer shell and a comfortable lining that is both soft and padded. This helmet is ideal for all ages with its adjustable straps for a secure fit and with its extra ventilation gaps your kids wont overheat on the slopes.

Bollé B-Lieve

Good-value new junior helmet with Bollé's Click-To-Fit system. Just dial it in until it clicks into a comfortable position. The detachable liner is washable and earpads are compatible with Bollé's audio kit which you can buy for an extra £30.

Picture Hubber

This one is for those looking for an eco friendly solution that combines functionality with great looks. The inners are made from dashboards and the hardshell from corn, padding and straps from organic cotton. Stylish looks and good for the environment.

K2 Rival Pro

Extra light weight design from K2 which comes with K2s Baseline Audio System pre installed into the earpads. The helmet is a comfortable fit thanks to a full washable liner and the helmet has all-round-the-head tightening not just via the chinstrap.

Smith Camber

Ultra-light new model with multiple vents designed to keep air flowing, plus the top ones can be adjusted. New dial-to-fit system makes fitting easy and quick and both the liner and the earpads are detachable.

Giro Discord

Sharp bright colours on this freestyle inspired helmet. Designers say the flexible outer shell and dual-density liner means it can withstand repeated impact. Surely its what you should expect from this anyway!

Julbo Symbios

A tailored design that's extra tough on top and is lightweight at the sides. The helmet fit is dialled in all around the head, vents can be open, closed or intermediate, with independent adjustment for front and back.

Salomon Quest

Lots of new innovations from Salomon that includes a padded liner that provides extra shock absorption, automatic fit thanks to a self-inflating band around the head and an improved system to increase airflow.
